Newcastle Wedding Photography – Amanda & Andy

Newcastle wedding photography Amanda and AndyAmanda and Andy held their wedding at the end of October (on Halloween no less) at the fabulously quirky As You Like It in Jesmond, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. It was my first time shooting at the venue and it is so so fabulous! I love the upstairs dining area and the all the gorgeous details in the downstairs Frangipani function room, where the ceremony was held under a stunning canopy of branches and fairy lights! The whole day was magical and full of surprises. It was the first time I have seen a flash mob dancing to Michael Jackson’s thriller after the first dance, but hopefully not the last!

Enjoy this selection, the full set is on the portfolio website here.

Cumbria Wedding Photography – Helen & Darren

There are some weddings that stay with you for ages after the day is over and Helen and Darren’s wedding was definitely one of those! The lovely couple hired the magnificent Blencowe Hall in the Lake District for a weekend of wedding celebrations, and with all their guests staying at the Hall and adjacent cottages, the atmosphere was buzzing from when I first arrived on Saturday morning until late into the evening party complete with casino, paella and dancing the night away! I loved the relaxed atmosphere of the day, especially the trip to the local pub for lunch in a vintage red double decker bus.

It was such a special day and it is so obvious that these two are meant for each other, just putting together this blog post has brought back lots of memories and made me smile! I feel so lucky to have been a small part of their wedding and I hope you all enjoy the selection of photos, the full set can be found on the portfolio website.

Burnhopeside Hall: A New Wedding Venue in Durham

Earlier this summer I had the pleasure of photographing Jo and James’s wedding day at the beautiful Burnhopeside Hall on the outskirts of Durham City. When I first met with the couple I had never heard of this venue, and with good reason – they were the first to hold their reception there for at least 30 years, save for the owner’s family weddings.

The Grade II* listed house dates back to the 18th century and was once the home of William Hedley, who is best known locally for constructing the Puffing Billy locomotive. Set within a beautiful private estate with manicured gardens and stunning views, the estate is the perfect venue for a wedding celebration.

Weddings at Burnhopeside Hall are definitely personal, a mile away from the more corporate venues. The house and grounds are yours to treat as your own for the day, weekend or even week, and with plenty of room for families and friends to stay it becomes your home-from-home!  Any taste or preference that can be accommodated will be and with a limit on the number of events held throughout the year, your wedding is guaranteed to be unique and special to you and your guests. Couples can enjoy exclusive use of the house and grounds, including a camping if you wish in the grounds (festival theme anyone?!) and catering provided using local (and often home grown) produce – perfect for a relaxed family meal the night before and a full breakfast the day after!

A marquee on the lawn with the stunning house as a backdrop would make for the perfect  country garden wedding, and with the beautiful big rooms and open fires, a winter wedding would be so cosy and intimate.

As a photographer, you couldn’t ask for a better venue. The rooms are bright, airy and beautifully renovated, and the grounds have a mixture of backdrops with lots of lovely little nooks to go off for couple shots while the guests enjoy a drinks reception on the picturesque lawns.

The venue only opened its doors to couples this August, but with owner Christine behind the scenes, I’m sure it won’t be long until it is a top destination for weddings in Durham and the North East. However, the number of weddings each year will be strictly limited to retain that ‘Special’ aspect. Couples who are looking for a luxury home-from-home wedding venue for a unique and personal wedding should get in touch for information on how to book or to check my availability.

Durham Wedding Photography – Danielle & Kieron

It seems so long since Danielle and Kieron’s sunny wedding day in August! The couple were married at the picturesque St Andrew’s church in Aycliffe, a small village not far from Durham City with their reception at the Bishop Aukland Golf Club, just a short drive away. The whole day had such a fun, party atmosphere and Danielle was a beautiful bride! I hope you enjoy this selection of photos from the happy day, the full set can be found on the main website here.
