The Best of 2016

This year has been incredible for me, both in my personal life and on the business front (hello Regional Finalist for Wedding Photographer in the North East!). There have been so many lovely people marrying the love of their lives. I have been to rustic barn weddings and stately homes, majestic churches and garden ceremonies, but each day has been special and I have been so lucky to have played a small part in each.

A few venues have been ticked off my wish list this year including Doxford Barns (where I am now very proud to be a recommended supplier!), Beamish Hall Hotel, Crook Hall and Gardens and Doxford Hall, as well as returning to old favourites like Matfen Hall Hotel and Horton Grange.

It has been so hard to choose my favourite images from the whole year, which is why there is rather a lot! So put the kettle on, settle in and enjoy!

Doxford Barns Wedding – Sam & Zara

One of my favourite weddings of the summer was for Sam and Zara at the beautiful Doxford Barns in Northumberland. When I first met the couple at a wedding fair I got the feeling that their wedding would be my sort of day, totally relaxed and so much fun. This was my first wedding at Doxford Barns and I have since become one of their recommended suppliers, so it is fair to say that I love the place! Zara’s mum had diligently made what must have been hundreds of meters of bunting which was everywhere and looked amazing. The couple had their ceremony in the Threshing Hall which dates back to the 18th Century and looked beautiful with hundreds of lights by Festoon Lighting, old milk urns filled with flowers and petals down the aisle by the talented Wild With Love. Then it was outside into the sunshine for drinks looking out over the Northumberland countryside before the meal in the Great barn with lots of crazy dancing to awesome band Live Wire.

As is becoming more and more common, Sam and Zara didn’t want to do a lot of posed group shots, rather capture certain people throughout the day, something that a lot of my couples are keen on, and I am very happy to not spend lots of time setting up shots so that I can focus on the natural, candid images that I love to shoot!

I love that Sam and Zara did away with wedding traditions that didn’t mean anything to them, such as the couple doing a ‘first-look’ and walking each other down the aisle. As well as a joint bride and groom speech instead of the more traditional groom’s speech. Zara’s mum and Sam’s grandfather also gave a very moving speeches with lots of advice about life, marriage, cat ownership and everything!

It was so hard to chose my favourite photos from this wedding, but here is a small selection…

The Manor House Wedding – Kathryn & David

It is always so lovely to photograph a wedding for friends, especially when those friends are super laid back and are happy for you to do your own thing! Kathryn and David has the most wonderfully laid back and beautiful wedding day at The Manor House Hotel in West Aukland. There were so many beautiful personal touches to this day, such as the hand painted wooden signs, David’s monogrammed cufflinks, the custom family lego cake topper and the pastel pink roses by Victoria at Mrs Blooms. I also love that the couple did away with the traditional cake cutting and cut their cake straight after the ceremony so that the guests could eat it during the drinks reception!

Kathryn looked absolutely stunning in her beaded lace dress which was altered by Pressed Prom and Bridal who even arrived in the morning to do some final fittings and lace up the back to make sure Kathryn was picture perfect, what amazing service!  The boys also looked super smart in navy suits with gold ties and the couple two sons were brilliant as co-best man and a page boy, and kept me on my toes chasing around after them in the gardens!

Here is a selection of my favourite shots from the day, I hope you enjoy them.
