One of my favourite weddings of the summer was for Sam and Zara at the beautiful Doxford Barns in Northumberland. When I first met the couple at a wedding fair I got the feeling that their wedding would be my sort of day, totally relaxed and so much fun. This was my first wedding at Doxford Barns and I have since become one of their recommended suppliers, so it is fair to say that I love the place! Zara’s mum had diligently made what must have been hundreds of meters of bunting which was everywhere and looked amazing. The couple had their ceremony in the Threshing Hall which dates back to the 18th Century and looked beautiful with hundreds of lights by Festoon Lighting, old milk urns filled with flowers and petals down the aisle by the talented Wild With Love. Then it was outside into the sunshine for drinks looking out over the Northumberland countryside before the meal in the Great barn with lots of crazy dancing to awesome band Live Wire.
As is becoming more and more common, Sam and Zara didn’t want to do a lot of posed group shots, rather capture certain people throughout the day, something that a lot of my couples are keen on, and I am very happy to not spend lots of time setting up shots so that I can focus on the natural, candid images that I love to shoot!
I love that Sam and Zara did away with wedding traditions that didn’t mean anything to them, such as the couple doing a ‘first-look’ and walking each other down the aisle. As well as a joint bride and groom speech instead of the more traditional groom’s speech. Zara’s mum and Sam’s grandfather also gave a very moving speeches with lots of advice about life, marriage, cat ownership and everything!
It was so hard to chose my favourite photos from this wedding, but here is a small selection…
